VS Code

Use this page to add your PolicyArc environment to VS Code.

Not verified

We have not run VS Code against the gateway yet. The config below is the one the Admin Portal gives you. The client matrix records each run.

Config

Copy your gateway URL from the Admin Portal first. Copy your gateway URL shows where it is. The Admin Portal tells you to add this to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace, with your URL in place of https://your-environment.example/gateway/mcp. VS Code uses servers and "type": "http", not mcpServers.

{
"servers": {
"policyarc": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://your-environment.example/gateway/mcp"
}
}
}

Steps

These steps come from screenshots of an earlier run whose VS Code version was not recorded. That run used the user configuration instead of the workspace file.

  1. Open the command palette and run MCP: Open User Configuration. It opens your user mcp.json.
  2. Add the policyarc entry and save the file. VS Code shows Start above the entry.
  3. Select Start, then sign in to the identity provider your environment uses in the browser that opens.

The Admin Portal says this needs VS Code 1.95 or later with Copilot Chat in Agent mode, and that MCP: List Servers in the command palette shows whether the server is running. We have not checked either.
